AVAILABLE VIA OUT-OF-STATE NOTARY
Online notarization for California signers — the honest answer.
California enacted RON in 2023 (SB 696), but it is not yet in effect — the Secretary of State's system is still being implemented, with a statutory outside date of January 1, 2030.
California notaries cannot perform RON yet — but California law recognizes notarizations performed lawfully by online notaries commissioned in other states, and that is exactly what we arrange.

California questions, answered
Is online notarization legal in California?
California enacted RON in 2023 (SB 696), but it is not yet in effect — the Secretary of State's system is still being implemented, with a statutory outside date of January 1, 2030. California notaries cannot perform RON yet — but California law recognizes notarizations performed lawfully by online notaries commissioned in other states, and that is exactly what we arrange. The notarization is performed under the out-of-state notary's commissioning law, which California generally recognizes — the same interstate-recognition principle that makes an out-of-state paper notarization valid.
How does it work for California signers?
Exactly like any online notarization: upload your unsigned document, verify your identity, and meet a commissioned online notary on a recorded video call. The difference is the notary is commissioned in a state whose RON law is fully live — we arrange that automatically.
Will my document be accepted in California?
Out-of-state notarizations are generally recognized, with important exceptions for this state — County recorders and title underwriters may apply their own acceptance rules to California real-property documents — confirm with the receiving party first. For recorded real-estate documents anywhere, we recommend confirming acceptance with the county recorder or title company first, and we flag known friction points before you pay.
What does an online notarization cost?
Online notarization starts at $49 — that includes the live notary session, identity verification, and the first notarial seal. Extra seals are $19, extra signers $25, and an on-demand witness is $39. Every fee is itemized before you pay, and the notary fee is passed through at cost — never marked up by document type.
What documents can California signers notarize online?
Powers of attorney, affidavits, real-estate documents, vehicle titles, travel consents, business agreements, and most other documents — with this California caveat (2026): County recorders and title underwriters may apply their own acceptance rules to California real-property documents — confirm with the receiving party first. We check your exact state and document type before checkout, and we never fail silently.
This page summarizes California notarization rules for convenience and is not legal advice. Laws change — statute citations reflect our most recent review. Notarial acts are performed by independent commissioned notaries under the laws of their commissioning state.
