What do you need notarized?

We can notarize any document your state permits for online notarization. *Wills and certain estate documents are excluded from online notarization in some states — we check eligibility for your state before you pay.

State availability

Pick your state for the exact legal status, statute citations, and what we can arrange there.

SignSealShip is a technology platform that connects you with licensed, state-commissioned notaries through our partner network. We are not a notary public and do not provide legal advice. Notarial acts are performed by independent commissioned notaries under the laws of their commissioning state.

Online notarization, explained

Is online notarization legal in my state?

Remote online notarization is fully authorized in 43 states plus Washington, D.C. In most remaining states, you can legally use a notary commissioned in another RON state, and the notarization is recognized under interstate-recognition rules. We check your state and document before you pay — see the state availability grid on this page for your state's exact status.

How does the online notarization actually work?

After you upload your document and verify your identity, you join a recorded video session with a commissioned notary. The notary confirms your ID on camera, administers any required oath, watches you sign electronically, and applies their electronic seal and digital certificate. The sealed PDF is available to download immediately afterward.

How long does it take?

Most sessions finish in about 15 minutes end to end. Identity verification takes about two minutes, notaries are available 24/7 through our partner network, and the sealed document is delivered the moment the session completes.

Do I have to be in the same state as the notary?

No. The notary operates under the laws of their commissioning state, and you can be anywhere — that's what makes remote online notarization work for out-of-state closings, travelers, and military families. What matters is that we match your document and your state's rules correctly, which we check before you pay.

How much does it cost?

Online notarization starts at $49, which includes the live notary session, identity verification, and the first notarial seal. Extra seals are $19, extra signers $25, and an on-demand witness is $39. Every fee appears on its own receipt line before you pay — the notary fee itself is passed through at cost and never marked up by document type.

What documents can be notarized online?

Any document your state permits for remote online notarization — powers of attorney, affidavits, real-estate documents, vehicle titles, travel consents, business agreements, and more. Wills and certain estate documents are excluded in some states; we check eligibility for your exact state and document type before checkout.

What if I fail the identity quiz?

The knowledge-based quiz allows limited attempts and a failed check locks online verification for 24 hours under identity-proofing rules. If that happens we'll explain your options — including biometric verification where available, retrying after the lock, or a full refund. You only pay for a completed notarization.

Is a remotely notarized document accepted by courts and recorders?

Notarizations performed under a state's RON law carry the same legal effect as in-person notarizations, and the sealed document includes a digital certificate and tamper-evident audit trail. Some county recorders and title underwriters apply their own acceptance practices for recorded real-estate documents, so we recommend confirming with the receiving party — and we'll flag known friction points for your state.

Can you ship the notarized original somewhere for me?

Yes — that's the SignSealShip difference. Add delivery at checkout: a prepaid self-ship label, or automated print-and-mail of the executed documents — tracked from first-class to certified and overnight, to a title company, courthouse, or recorder's office.

What does the notary see and keep?

The notary sees your document and your identity verification result, completes a journal entry, and the session video is retained as required by their state's RON law. Your documents live in your encrypted SignSealShip account — we retrieve and store the sealed PDF for you immediately after completion.
