Your document is signed and notarized in a live online session with a commissioned notary — or bring one already notarized.
The notarized original goes to the competent authority — the Secretary of State for the notary's state — with the exact government fee, itemized and never marked up.
The state attaches the apostille certificate that Hague Convention countries recognize.
The apostilled original ships to any country, tracked, with a tamper-evident record of the whole journey.

Where was (or will) the document (be) notarized, and where is it going?
THREE ROUTES
Where a document gets its apostille depends on who issued it and where it's going. Our route engine models all three paths.
STATE ROUTE
Birth, marriage, and death certificates, state court records, and notarized private documents (powers of attorney, affidavits, business documents) are apostilled by the Secretary of State where the record was issued or the notary is commissioned. Timelines vary widely by state — from days to weeks.
FEDERAL ROUTE
FBI background checks, USCIS records, certificates of naturalization, federal court documents, military records (DD-214), and consular reports of birth abroad are authenticated only by the U.S. Department of State's Office of Authentications in Washington, DC — typically about two weeks of government processing.
NON-HAGUE ROUTE
Destinations outside the Hague Convention (currently 125+ countries participate) need authentication plus embassy or consular legalization instead. These routes have extra steps and country-specific requirements — ours go through human review, always.

HOW WE PLAY IT STRAIGHT
State apostille fees (for example, Texas charges $15 per certificate) appear as their own line, charged at exactly what the state charges. Our service fee is separate and visible.
An apostille certifies the notary's authority — the receiving country's institutions decide what they accept. We never promise acceptance, and we say so before you pay.
Some destinations aren't in the Hague Convention and need embassy legalization instead; some document types need extra steps. When the answer isn't certain, a human reviews it — the system never guesses.
